The Risks and
Side Effects of Prescription Acne Medications
One of the most common diet recommendations you will see acne sufferers make is to cut out all red meat. In place of this they would generally have you sit around eating fruits and vegetables and whole grains in quantities good for a bird. Unfortunately they are leading people away from proper diet on this point. You may even read of people who decided to see if diet was the cause of their acne, and so they toss out red meat (or even all meat) and up their fruit and vegetable consumption. They often eat way more plant or nut oils because their body is craving fats too. This is a recipe for disaster for acne. It's nearly the complete opposite of what you want to do, and it starts with the thinking that red meat is bad.
Red meat is good! Red meat is great! For the acne sufferer red meat is one of the best foods. Red meat does not cause or exacerbate acne at all. Ideally you eat your meat from grass fed animals, which helps avoid pesticides. However, it's not required. Quality grocery store meat is fine to consume. Red meat is an outstanding source of nutrition. Acne sufferers, who already should be cutting out other poor foods such as all refined sugars and many types of breads/white rice, desperately need the nutrition of red meat. Telling them to cut it out is incorrect and usually said by people who don't know anything about proper diet.
The other important thing about red meat is how you have it cooked. I'm amazed at the number of people who think meat is fine to eat well done or cooked very well with no pink in the meat. This could actually cause some problems if you do it often.
Red meat is meant to be eaten red! High quality steak, such as the filet mignon is only prepared extremely rare! This is as it should be. Rare meat is vastly easier to digest than well cooked meat. Rare meat is an outstanding food that digests quickly and has huge amounts of nutrition. Eat red meat, and eat is with generous amounts of pink left in the meat. The rarer, the better.
