The Risks and
Side Effects of Prescription Acne Medications
Vitamin B is not as popular of a vitamin as the other main vitamins and is often overlooked in regards to acne. This is likely due to the many different types of B vitamins such as B1, B2, B5, B12, and so on. All of these B vitamins are certainly important for health. However, the acne sufferer is rarely deficient in these types of vitamins. Non-vegetarian diets do not have much problem consuming enough of these vitamins.
One popular acne treatment method that became popular due to its publication of positive results by people online has been the B5 overdose plan. This plan had people taking up to 10g (yes that is 10 grams) of Vitamin B5 every single day. In fact many people reported positive results from trying this type of regimen.
However, this kind of regimen is simply the result of people suffering with acne and desperate for a cure. No rational person would say that this super-extreme level of supplementation is healthy or anything close to natural.
In fact if you look closer at unbiased reports from those who have tried it, most of the time they do not achieve clear skin and in addition they gain some very bad side effects. One big one is hair that becomes very thing and even falls out. Healing the skin does not need to be this extreme or dramatic! It is a sad result of those who are tempted into trying a regimen such as this because of very low self esteem due to their acne. This program is not a cure and not a good long term solution. Can anyone honestly say that taking 5-10g of Vitamin B5 every day is an acceptable solution to clear skin?
The simple fact of the matter is acne is not so simple as "just take some more vitamins and you will have clear skin." No, acne is much more complex because it is a whole body disease, not just a Vitamin B deficiency.
We do not recommend supplementing with any form of Vitamin B unless told to do so specifically by a doctor. Synthetic forms of vitamins are not something you want to be taking for the long term.
