The Risks and
Side Effects of Prescription Acne Medications
Vitamin D probably receives the most press and news related items of any of the Vitamins. This is because the deficiency of Vitamin D is often related to osteoporosis, weakened bones. Vitamin D is often advertised as the promoter of bone health for everyone. What's the relation between Vitamin D and acne? It is certainly an important one. We all need a good level of Vitamin D in our bodies.
One way to have low to even extremely low levels of Vitamin D is to live in a northern climate where the sun does not shine for months at a time. One of the easiest ways to have proper Vitamin D levels is to be in the sunshine without sunscreen. Do not be afraid of the sun! The sun exists to provide us with life. Plants without the sun often die, and humans are adversely affected when we have no sun exposure. Now, be careful, never get burned in the sun. You must adjust your sun exposure according to your relation to the equator, the time of the day, and your length of exposure. We do not recommend prolonged periods in the middle of the day with exposure to direct sunlight, especially for fairer skinned peoples. However, do keep in mind that people with dark skin can handle quite a bit of sun exposure and in fact need more than others.
Use your good judgment when in the sun, do not get burned. However, try to be in the sun for a few minutes every day. The sun is why life can be maintained on this Earth. The sun's rays are actually quite beneficial for healthy skin. People get bad skin due to bad diet and sun exposure. The formulas looks something like this.
Proper Diet + Proper Sun Exposure = Good Skin. (supple, smooth)
Bad Diet + Excessive Skin Exposure = Bad Skin (leathery, aged)
This is why the tribes of Africa maintain good skin when on their original diets even though they have high sun exposure. Their dark skin also helps as they can be in the sun much longer than a fair skinned person. The difference always comes back to diet!
Now what else can a person do to keep up proper Vitamin D levels? One great way is to supplement with cod liver oil, especially in the winter months. Cod liver oil is an outstanding source of very high quality Vitamin D. Another great source of Vit D is raw milk. These two sources along with the sun will provide all the primary Vitamin D you need. Normal foods will help with any you may be missing.
